Photographing One of Iceland’s Most Famous Waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss waterfall is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland, and it’s also a great place to take some beautiful photographs. If you’re planning your trip to Iceland any time soon, then this blog post will provide helpful information on how to photograph Seljalandsfoss waterfall. First things first: when is the best time of day for capturing good light? How do you get the “perfect shot” in this tight space?  What are some other tips for getting awesome photos at Seljalandsfoss? Keep reading below!

When is the best time of day for capturing good light?

The waterfall is located on the South Coast of Iceland, close to Skógafoss. Most people visit Seljalandsfoss during their trip to this part of the country, which means that there are usually a lot of tourists at the site around noon time every day. This can be frustrating for photographers who want some peace & quiet. If you’re trying to photograph this waterfall, then it’s best to be here before 11 am or late afternoon noon. Either way, early morning is the best to avoid the crowds. If the weather is cooperating with you try using one of those fancy “sunset apps” to show when and where the sun will rise and set. Note: you need to account for the Midnight Sun for example June 21 (Summer Solstice) the Sunrise is 2:55 am and Sunset is 12:03 pm.

How do you get the perfect shot in this tight space?

One of the biggest tips we can give for photographing Seljalandsfoss is that a kit lens and low light aren’t usually your friends when taking pictures there: the site just is very wide and shallow! But if you bring a wide-angle lens, then this is the perfect place to use it. The best way to get good photos with your wide-angle is by backing against the cave wall and using a tripod to shoot long exposures at night or early morning.

Other tips for getting awesome photos at Seljalandsfoss?

Another great tip for photographing Seljalandsfoss waterfall is to watch where the mist comes out. You can get some really fun shots of people being surrounded by the mist if you’re in just the right spot!

Good luck photographing Seljalandsfoss, and have a great trip to Iceland! Make sure that you visit the most beautiful waterfalls around Reykjavik on your trip, including Goðafoss waterfall.
