Travel HDR Photography – Good Morning Venice

“Good Morning Venice” – Here’s a shot that I took in Venice, Italy. I woke up early and headed down to St. Mark’s Square. This is where they line up the gondolas at night once they’re finished for the day. The sun was barely up and the sky was a nice mix between pastel colors and cool blue tones. It was peaceful to hear the boats rocking gently in the water as I set up my shot. I was the only one there, which was in contrast to the night before when the square was filled with hundreds of people enjoying the outdoor orchestras. Day or night, this is the spot to be in Venice.

Post Processing “Good Morning Venice” – I took three bracketed shots EV (-2, 0, +2) and combined the them in Lightroom to create an HDR image. Then I used Lightroom on a single exposure (EV, 0) to create a couple of different creative versions. Next I combined the original three EV (-2, 0, +2) RAW files into Photomatix to create another HDR version. Finally, I blended all my “versions” into Photoshop to get the final image!
