Creative Edit - The Oldest Stone Church in North America.

Today, I am taking you behind the scenes and on location in Quebec City, Canada. This is the first photo in my new Creative Edit Travel Series. Check out the video below for a sneak peek of how I took this shot and my editing process.

The Location

Standing outside the Notre Dame Des Victories Church, a small Roman Catholic Church located in the lower town of Quebec City. The city is situated on the banks of the St. Lawrence River and is one of the oldest cities in North America. The French explorer, Samuel de Champlain, founded Quebec City in the 1600’s. Quebec City is separated into two distinct regions, old town and new town. We stayed in old town in order to experience more of the city’s history and architecture. This shot was taken in Place Royal Plaza, a quaint little square in the heart of the old town.

The Scene

The photo was taken in early October at around 11:30pm. I waited until most of the residents went home so that I would have a clear shot of the square. It rained prior to our arrival, which reflected the lights on the cobblestone streets. The square was lit up by the shops that lined the perimeter and the spotlights on the church. With all of the 17^th and 18^th century French Colonial architecture, it reminded me a lot of being in Europe.

The Gear

For this photo I used the Sony A7R camera with a Cannon 16-35mm lens. I secured a metabones adapter to allow the lens to fit properly. I steadied my camera with a Manfrotto 190CX PRO 3 tripod.

The Settings

Post Processing: I did take three bracketed shots EV (-2,0,+2) mixed in Photomatix then made a couple of different versions using some Lightroom Presets and finally mixed the images in Photoshop.
