Travel Photography – Shard of Glass
“Shard of Glass” – Here’s a shot that I took of The Shard in London, England. I was down at the waterfront to photograph Tower Bridge and I noticed that there was a festival happening at City Hall. I went over to check it out and ended up finding this modern looking alleyway away from the crowd. I noticed the surrounding buildings framed the Shard nicely. Plus, I’m naturally drawn to reflective surfaces, as they make great HDR images! (or, perhaps I was a fish in my past life, haha) One thing that I have discovered in the past few years is that negative space is just as important as your subject matter. I must admit, I love cityscape photography. You get to explore different angles/composition while getting lost in the city 🙂
Post Processing “Shard of Glass” – I took three bracketed shots EV (-2, 0, +2) and combined the them in Lightroom to create an HDR image. Then I used Lightroom on a single exposure (EV, 0) to create a couple of different creative versions. Next I combined the original three EV (-2, 0, +2) RAW files into Photomatix to create another HDR version. Finally, I blended all my “versions” into Photoshop to get the final image!
