The Cinematic Preset for Lightroom

Today I will be demonstrating the Cinematic preset. I’m photographer/writer and a lifestyle blogger Style by Clark Martin. I use Lightroom presets to help me edit the photos I take for my blog. This preset is available in the Portrait Collection as well as in the premium collection, The Creative Flow. Below is a photograph that I took last week at a local café. I was shooting detail shots of cupcakes and coffee for a new blog series that I’m developing called “Street Chic.” The shot was taken on a Cannon 5D Mark ii using a 50 mm lens. The settings for the shot were: f 2.5, ISO 500, 1/800 sec. I used the natural light from the window and Aperture Priority. As you can see below, the shot looked pretty good straight out of the camera. The focus was right, the positioning was right, but something was missing. When I got home I threw it into Lightroom and started playing with the Creative Flow presets. The original raw photo looked a bit cold. I was looking for something that would give the photo some pizazz. I came across the Portrait-Cinematic preset and I loved the results that it gave me.

The original photo had a lot of oranges, yellows and browns. The Portrait-Cinematic Preset really brought out all of these colors and created a warm and cozy feeling. The vignette and shading beautifully framed out the shot and reminded me of a scene you might see in a film. What I learned from this experience is that presets can have more than one application. This preset was created for portraits, yet it performed beautifully with this close up detailed shot. It reminded me to keep trying new things and think outside of the box when it comes to creating and playing with my photos. Do you like the Cinematic look?
