Creative Edit: Mountain Peak – Tim Martin
“Mountain Peak” – This is a photograph that I took while traveling in the Bernese Alps, which are located in Switzerland. The views were amazing! From this vantage point I could see the mountain range extending all the way to France on one side, and Italy on the other. At nearly 12,000 feet, these mountains are some of the highest points in Europe (I could almost see my house from up there! haha). It was a bit of a journey to get up to this spot. The high altitude made the air rather thin, making each step slightly more difficult. Being so high up was pretty humbling and made me realize how small we actually are. While photographing this area, I quickly became familiar with my camera’s optical viewfinder. The sun reflecting off the snow was so bright, I could not see my LCD display screen at all! If you ever decide to take photos on a snow covered mountain, make sure you bring sunscreen and sunglasses! 80-90% of the UV light is reflected back at you and you can get a wicked sun burn… kinda like a potato wrapped in tinfoil 🙂
Processing “Mountain Peak” I took nine bracketed shots by taking my first set of three starting at EV 0, then another set of three at EV -2 and finally my last set at EV +2 to make sure I had all my basis covered. For my final HDR image I only used the best three exposures and dropped them in Photomatix. Then I used Lightroom to create a couple of different interesting versions. Finally I blended all my “versions” into Photoshop to give you the final image!
