Luminar NEO Film KDK 35 Kodak Inspired Film Presets

Each preset is crafted to give the modern photographer beautiful, Kodak inspired color, right inside Luminar NEO.

Kodak inspired film emulation for Luminar NEO: 35 presets built from film inspired 3D LUTs and Luminar’s own Film Grain tool, so you can dial the look and the grain after you apply it.

Inspired by the color science of Kodak color negative and slide films. The looks inspired by Portra 160, 400 and 800 and Gold 200 are new in this update, rebuilt from 16-bit color masters, and sit alongside the looks inspired by Ektachrome 100 and Kodachrome and the Chrome looks inspired by Kodak slide film. Each film look comes as a family of five: the standard look, + and + film variations, and + cool and + warm shifts of the color balance.

Every preset applies to RAW and JPEG files and lands in Luminar’s Edits panel as a normal stack: the Mood tool holding the film look with an Amount slider from 0 to 100, and the Film Grain tool already applied. Turn either one down, up, or off. On the looks inspired by Portra 160, 400 and 800, the grain gets stronger as the film speed goes up.

Which Kodak inspired look to choose

Tone and color below describe what each standard look does to your photo, measured on the preset itself at its saved strength, not a claim about the film it is named after.

  • Inspired by Portra 160Brighter midtones, gentle contrast and soft, slightly warm color. Try it for: Portraits, weddings and soft light.
  • Inspired by Portra 400Brighter midtones, moderate contrast, natural midtone color and warm shadows. Try it for: Portraits and family photos.
  • Inspired by Portra 800Brighter midtones, moderate contrast, full yellows and cooler shadows. Try it for: Portraits and warm-toned scenes.
  • Inspired by Gold 200Brighter midtones, crisp contrast, warm skin, and quieter greens and blues. Try it for: Summer and beach days where you want warm skin and calmer greens.
  • Inspired by Ektachrome 100Brighter midtones, crisp contrast and blues that hold their strength. Try it for: Landscapes, water and sky.

These are presets for Luminar NEO only, not for Lightroom or Photoshop. If you own the 2022 version of this collection, Luminar will not refresh it: delete the Presetpro KDK Film collection in Luminar, add the new file, then restart Luminar.

How do I install this collection in Luminar NEO?

Double-click the .lnpc file (unzip it first if your download is a .zip), or in Luminar NEO open Presets, go to Purchased and choose Add. It installs as the Presetpro KDK Film collection under Purchased. Updating from an earlier version? See question 6 first.

Do the presets work on RAW and JPEG files?

Yes. Every preset is a Luminar preset built from a 3D LUT and Luminar’s own Film Grain tool, so it applies to any photo Luminar can open, RAW or JPEG, and every slider stays editable after you apply it.

How do I adjust the strength of a look?

Apply the preset, then open the Mood tool in the Edits panel, where the Kodak inspired film look sits, and move its Amount slider from 0 to 100. Film Grain has its own tool, so you can raise, lower or switch off the grain.

What do +, + film, + cool and + warm mean?

Each film look comes as a family of five. The standard look is the starting point, + is a second take on the same look, and + film is a third that, on most of the looks, lifts the blacks for a faded print feel. + cool and + warm are versions that shift the color balance. The quickest way to choose is to compare their live thumbnails in Luminar’s Presets panel.

What is the difference between the looks inspired by Portra 160, 400 and 800?

The look inspired by Portra 160 has the softest color of the three. The look inspired by Portra 400 keeps midtones natural and adds warm shadows. The look inspired by Portra 800 keeps yellows full, with cooler shadows.

I own the 2022 version of this collection. How do I update?

Luminar does not refresh a collection it already has installed. Delete the Presetpro KDK Film collection in Luminar, add the new .lnpc file, then restart Luminar. The collection keeps its name. The 2022 Portra and Portra 160 families are replaced by looks inspired by Portra 160, 400 and 800 and Gold 200, and the Echrome 100 presets are now named Ektachrome 100. Four kept presets also look slightly different, because Chrome, Kodachrome + and Ektachrome 100 + warm, all inspired by Kodak slide film, were cleaned up to a single LUT, and Ektachrome 100 now has grain.

Does it work on Mac and PC?

It should. The .lnpc format installs on Mac and Windows, and the 2022 version of this collection works on PC. This release was built and tested on Luminar Neo 1.26.1 on the Mac; if anything looks different on your PC, get in touch and we will sort it out.
